Isaac Augustus Jarratt (1841-1890) graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1861. He was the son of Isaac C. Jarratt and Harriett Ann Bates Cash. In 1869 he married Sarah Ellen Puryear (1839-1912), daughter of Richard C. and Elizabeth Ann Clingman Puryear of the Shallow Ford Plantation. They had three children, Richard Clausel Jarratt (1870-1953), Harriett Jarratt Cooke (1874-1937), and Augustus Henry Jarratt (1878-1951)....

Isaac Jarratt was a soldier in the War of 1812, landholder, merchant, and slave trader in Montgomery, Ala., and Huntsville, N.C. His son, Isaac Augustus Jarratt (1841-1890), of Huntsville, Conrads, and Fayetteville, N.C., was a planter, merchant, and distiller. The younger Jarratt received an A.B. from the University of North Carolina in 1861 and served as a captain in Company C, 26th North Carolina Infantry Regiment, during the Civil War.
